alc./vol: 0%

Proof:

Vintage: Non-vintage

Aged: Unaged

Product of: Product of Italy Italy

Known in Italy as "Marasche al frutto" (literally 'cherries to the fruit'), these are the Marasca cherries used by Luxardo for distilling its renowned Maraschino liqueur, but here preserved in a jar, 50% candied cherries and 50% syrup. No thickening agents or preservatives are used.

The old-fashioned-looking 400 gram (14.1oz) jars have a shelf life of three years. Once opened, keep the jar closed in a cool, dry place. Despite the label advising against it, we store ours in a refrigerator between uses.

Ingredients
"Cherries, Marasca cherry juice, glucose, water, citric acid, natural colour anthocyanin, Marashino flavour."

Have been buying these for years and suddenly they seem to be a rarity and much more expensive that I even paid. I may have to buy a few jars from here and have them shipped to France. An alternative are Amarena cherries they're pretty good too.

Not quite the same, but I enjoyed making my own from unsweetened morello cherries, marinated with 50% 2:1 sugar syrup and 25% each Armagnac and Luxardo liqueur, from memory. Not quite the intensity of flavour of the commercial ones, but I thought successful and a suitably aromatic and tasty garnish.

Best in the market, super rich layers sweetness and plump cherries.

Simply the most stunning cherries available. Just the small amount of juice that comes off the cherry when you put it into a cocktail adds a rich sweetness. I could eat the whole jar.

The jar says that you shouldn't refrigerate these

I can vouch for this, they will go bad. With the amount of sugar, am quite happy to just keep them on a shelf and have not been sick.

Sandip is correct, at least in the US. See label at this URL https://www.digiacomobros.com/products/luxardo-maraschino-cherries-14oz

Presently we have 17 recipes with maraschino cherry syrup. To find these, please go to our Cocktail Finder (under the 'Cocktails & Mixed drinks' tab) and under 'choose type' select 'syrup' and then 'Maraschino cherry syrup' and then click 'find'.
  7. I use the syrup more than the cherries. Do you have a recipe for the syrup?

I've seen a couple here I think. How about using the juice to pour on some desserts.

These are the real thing. I love Manhattans and it would be much reduced without these cherries. They are absolutely delicious. What can you do with the syrup when you've used up all the cherries though? You could pour it over ice-cream, but we don't eat ice-cream. Is there any scope for using the syrup as a cocktail ingredient?

Sure, we've 17 cocktails with the syrup so far. In our Cocktail Finder which is under the Cocktail tab please look for "Maraschino syrup from cherry jar" in the "syrup" serach menu.
